

Latoya Braswell
Science Teacher
Mrs. Braswell is a charismatic and dynamic educator with substantive experience. Her career begin in 2005 in Brownsville, Brooklyn. She has been apart of the VA team for 3 years, teaching Science and instilling in her students the need to question natural phenomena and advocate for change. Her belief in this principle has allowed her to be the founder of the Social Justice Science Symposium. This platform has been an integral part of student voice and student advocacy for change. Traveling as a national speaker to elaborate on how to boost underrepresented youth interest, engagement and achievement in STEM for the National Association of Science Teachers, Frontiers in Urban Education and recently BOOST(Best of Out of School Time) has been some of her endeavors. She has appeared twice on the nationally syndicated “Dr. Oz Show” promoting healthy food choices. She holds a bachelor of science in biochemistry from Claflin University. A master’s in public administration from MCNY and a master's of education from Cambridge College. She has plans to pursue a doctorate in educational law in the future, author a book and possibly pursue some acting. Her life is further enriched by her husband, children and loving family. Her mother is her greatest inspiration. She counts it as a blessing to be able to touch lives and have her life touched by the students and people she encounters on a daily basis.
