Humanities Teacher
Mrs.Florestal joined the Village Academy family in 2018. She is a Humanities/ENL teacher. Her focus in teaching at Village has been mainly on the ENL population. Though born in Brooklyn New York, Ms Florestal grew up in Haiti and the Dominican Republic where her parents are respectfully from. Having left the USA at the mere age of 3 months to move to Haiti, she fluently speaks French and Haitian Creole. As a teenager, she moved to the Dominican Republic to finish high school and as a result, she speaks fluent Spanish. She studied architecture at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic but transferred to Brooklyn College after her sophomore year. Once back in the United States and in Brooklyn College she decided to finally major in Education like she had always wanted to do since a very young age. She graduated from Brooklyn College, Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s in Secondary English Education. She is currently pursuing a graduate Degree in Literacy/ African American Literature at Brooklyn College. Her love for reading reflects in her teaching and her relationship with her students. Using her background and different language abilities she has greatly enjoyed being on the ENL team at VA where she has been able to communicate and relate to students from different countries and their experiences. She hopes to continue to inspire her students to always be the best versions of themselves.
Mrs. Florestal is happily married and lives in Long Island with her husband and two beautiful boys. During her free time she enjoys reading, hanging out with her friends, watching television and spending time with her family.
