Ilahni Rivera

Humanities Teacher

Ms.Rivera is currently a Humanities teacher at Village Academy. She has been a part of the Village Academy family for four years and has made substantial growth throughout her tenure here. Ms. Rivera’s undergraduate career began at York College where she earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology. After much deliberation Ms. Rivera decided to join the “Teaching Fellows Program” to fulfill her dreams of becoming an educator. Ms. Rivera was inspired to become an educator after observing her mother teach high school for thirty years. This led to Ms. Rivera obtaining her master’s degree in education from Long Island University Brooklyn in 2019. Ms. Rivera has been recognized for her ability to push students to their full potential and her determination to close the achievement gap. Moreover, teaching students of color is Ms. Rivera’s greatest honor. By being a teacher of color, she is a living testimony that hard work and dedication can propel you to your dreams no matter what color, religion, or economic status you come from. The 7th grade is looking forward to teaching VA’s future scholars.
